10 Best Travel Water Bottles For Every Trip

The 10 best thermal Travel Water Bottles :which one to choose and how they work.

Having a thermal water bottle has now become a trend: from stationery shops to tobacco or bookstores, it is one of the most easily available products; the increase in the demand for purchasing Travel water bottles by consumers continues to meet with great success.

Not all bad things come to harm, on the contrary, and so not all trends are to be indiscriminately pointed out, but rather to be questioned with a critical eye. That’s why, even in this case, there are some specific questions to ask, because of whether an intelligent purchase, is useful for the environment, for one’s pockets, and above all healthy for one’s well-being.

Thermal Travel water bottles Quechua in stainless steel:

This is personally my favorite thermal water bottle, you can find it at Decathlon, also online, and it only costs 14.99 €. Made of stainless steel materials, lighter than many thermoses by 30%, very solid and highly insulating, with a screw cap and integrated filter.

The protection in the bottom of the bottle makes it super resistant to shocks. Despite some criticism about the stability of the rubber in the spout of the cap, I have not encountered any problems, on the contrary, this water bottle has accompanied me so far on about ten medium-long trips and has never left me “stranded”.

I find the capacity perfect for both long and short trips, 0.8 liters is not too little like 0.5 and not bulky like 1-liter ones.

It must be admitted, the creators at Decathlon have hit the nail on the head with the combination of utility and design.

HYDRO FLASK Thermal Water Bottle

Excellent water bottle available in 500 and 1000 ml versions, it is also available with a wide or standard opening. The wide opening allows for ice cubes to be inserted into the bottle.

It doesn’t fit in the car’s bottle holder or the side pocket of a backpack because it’s slightly too big, but it fits perfectly in a trekking backpack. The water remains perfectly cool or hot for over 5 hours.
It is deep and wide, making it easy to clean – the lid can also be “disassembled” for thorough cleaning.
Maybe you can’t walk comfortably with this water bottle in your hand, but it’s a great hydration solution to put in your backpack or keep on your desk.

If you want to take long walks, Hydro FLASK also offers the trekking version of this water bottle, making it lighter and easier to carry, the Hydro FLASK Trail Series.

Why use a reusable thermal water bottle?:

As you know, the first reason that has led many buyers to buy a water bottle is that of environmental care: how much does the use of a water bottle affect our ecosystem? Why not use plastic bottles instead? And above all, why not reuse the same bottle?

First of all, let’s reason about the production costs and sustainability of this: first of all, know that the production of this product annually involves the dispersion of about 2.5 million tons of CO2 – 2.5 million tons only in the UK! – and looking at these numbers, you can well focus on how much the warming of the planet is affected, how much the famous greenhouse effect is amplified by the single bottle you take at the bar.

And after production, even the subsequent phase of supplying disposable bottles will exponentially amplify this slice of pollution.

In fact, on second thought, to be able to buy the bottle at the bar under the house, disproportionate use of means of transport is put into effect, an exaggerated amount of pollution in more phases of the process: think of the supplier who brings the goods to your trusted bar every morning, but even before the journeys that all suppliers – yours along with those of all the others – make to go to and from the production factory.

You already know that this hefty and daily use of oil is not so easily sustainable for us, given the scarcity of our resources.

You should know that only a percentage of recyclable plastic is put into the recycling process, and for this, if we reflect on the natural disposal times that these types of plastic require, I would like to tell you that the hypothetical purchase of even just one bottle a day has an enormous environmental impact: on average, a bottle takes about 450 years to degrade autonomously, and this implies that the one you buy at the bar today will impact the health of 18 future generations, if not more.

But, in addition to harming future generations, by repeatedly using the same water bottle you will also harm yourself, even if it’s cost-free: these types of plastic, the famous PET, are designed for single-use and continuous refilling can alter their chemical composition, especially if you pour hot coffee or any other high-temperature beverage in addition to water – quite simply, in addition to contaminating the liquids inside, they can also deform and leak in your backpack.

If you drink a lot, it is therefore strongly recommended to use a water bottle, not only for yourself but also for others.

The bottled water market in Italy is enormous. In 2019, revenues of €6.4 billion were recorded thanks to the sale of almost 8 billion bottles (source).

Given the per capita economic weight of €98 on average, think about how much less spending on bottled water would impact your wallet at the end of the year.

Considering that most water consumed outside the home, for example at a station or a bar, has a cost almost five times higher than that of the supermarket, which could be eliminated thanks to the simple use of a refillable water bottle, easily filled at home or one of the many fountains in the city.”

How does the thermal bottle work?

If you choose a stainless-steel thermal bottle, you’ll want to know how it works.

These are certainly one of the best types of bottles on the market, the most durable and convenient, thanks in particular to their ability to maintain the internal temperature, allowing you to use them in multiple circumstances.

How does it work? Very simply, the vacuum between the two walls of the bottle acts as a barrier, a wall between the inside and outside: that space between the double walls inside prevents the phenomenon of heat conduction, that is, it prevents the molecules of the internal liquid from coming into contact with the outside, thus remaining unchanged in temperature.

Thermal Bottle Functioning

Now that you want to do good for yourself and the environment, I propose some characteristics to consider when purchasing a proper bottle, from capacity to price-quality ratio, but also the type of closure and thermal insulation capacity.

When buying, you need to consider several features, so let’s first think about how you will use the product: Are you a sports person?

Consider those with mechanical openings or with pull&push spouts, otherwise those with a straw: examine bottles with an easy-to-handle open and close mechanism with one hand to allow you to continue your physical activity without interruption.

Otherwise, are you a student who frequently visits the library? An office worker? You can look for those with a screw cap!

Are you interested in the guarantee of temperature maintenance? Look at stainless steel thermal bottles, or look at others made of aluminum, plastic, or even glass.

Whatever your use of the bottle, in addition to the opening and closing characteristics, you must consider the material properties and, above all, their durability: on the one hand, some plastic bottles are more susceptible to mold growth, otherwise, they produce a certain acrid taste and odor; on the other hand, always remember that all products lose their initial qualities after a certain period of use, so check from time to time that the paint on the opening has not eroded, as it could end up inside the bottle. Also, check that the cap is still effective, as it could spill again in your bag!

Finally, the stainless-steel thermal bottle: in this case, if you pour different drinks

Regardless of the specificity of the different materials, first of all, check if it is dishwasher safe – if yes, wash it every week – and, if not, just know that the most useful tool for cleaning it is the brush: simple and effective, it will allow you to reach any point without too much effort.

In particular, if it is made of glass, you can use simple dish washing detergent – without ever exaggerating! -, although it is always preferable for your health and the environment to use a neutral and mild product.

For those made of glass, you can also use a teaspoon of some acidic substances – vinegar, lemon, or baking soda: add it to the water (half the capacity is enough) and shake it vigorously, wait ten hours, and then rinse it.

If it is made of aluminum, the aforementioned substances are not recommended, as they are likely to alter the shine. A neutral product or dish washing detergent will suffice in this case.

Finally, the stainless steel water bottle, that is thermal: in this case, if you pour different beverages, both hot and cold, it would be great to wash it well every time you change the liquid; here too, acidic substances or detergents, neutral products, all suitable for cleaning.

For each type, remember that it is important to wash every part of the water bottle well, from the cap to the neck, down to the bottom!”

Does aluminum water bottle harm you?

Regarding the aluminum water bottle, there have been some controversies about the actual quality of the product, which on one hand has seen an anti-aluminum trend, almost a mass hysteria that took hold in the early 1900s.

The first testimony of the anti-aluminum movement comes from Ohio: Charles Truax Betts, a dentist by profession, received a fatal diagnosis of intestinal gastritis in 1913, which, according to his doctor, would have given him only three more months to live.

The poor man, convinced that the cause was the aluminum used in his dental practice, preemptively threw out any object made of that material out the window.

As it happens, gastritis does not kill him, and saved by divine providence, he continues his anti-aluminum campaign even more fiercely, complete with structured propaganda, including pseudo-scientific articles with no basis and flyers left door to door, clearly supported by many of those manufacturers of kitchen pots and utensils made of alternative materials, all of lesser quality, driven by the increase in their wallet.

But that’s not all, around the mid-century, in 1965, as if that wasn’t enough, three doctors – Wisniewski, Terry, and Klatzo – associate aluminum with Alzheimer’s disease, hypothesizing a cause-and-effect relationship: based on the observation of changes in the brains of some rabbits, to which they administered aluminum compound salts, they compared the effects of those salts on rabbits with the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, finding similarities.

Unfortunately, the scientific community of the time, after repeating the experiment, refutes the three doctors’ hypothesis and puts it aside. Despite this, Wisniewski, Terry, and Klatzo lose credibility, but the anti-aluminum trend is hard to die, and research and experiments that try to link Alzheimer’s disease to this material persist, perhaps because Alzheimer’s disease still lacks a certain etiology, and the hope of having a culprit often prevails over science.

Personally, from the failure of all the experiments on this matter, I can tell you that my water bottle is made of aluminum: ecological, convenient, and not harmful at all.
